What is NTA, after all, why is JEE-NEET adamant?
The NTA (National Testing Agency) conducts a high-level entrance examination for admission to the premier institutes of the country. At present, the academic sessions of all medical colleges, IITs, IIITs, NITs, CFTIs and ICAR-AU depend on these entrance examinations, know why NTA is insisting on getting these exams early. Perhaps because of this you also agree.
The Ministry of Human Resources formed the National Testing Agency three years ago. The NTA received cabinet approval in November 2017. It was formed with the aim of major reforms in the country’s educational system. In one of its sessions, the number of candidates appearing for the examination is about 4-5 million. For example, over 8.5 lakh candidates are expected to appear in JEE Main and around 16 lakh candidates in NEET (UG). The count of these two examinations alone is 2.4 million. Apart from this, around 2.5 million candidates will appear in the ICAR entrance examinations. Other Higher Institute entrance examinations include admissions for DU, JNU etc.

Why NTA considers exam necessary
The National Testing Agency believes that we should also look at the other side of the coin. This whole exercise is to save an entire academic calendar year. To save one year of many candidates it is necessary to conduct entrance examinations. If we look at the other side of the coin and consider it as zero year, then how will our system be able to accommodate two year candidates in one session. Therefore, the NTA is trying its best to save one year even if there is a slight delay in the sessions.
The Supreme Court has dismissed the writ petition in relation to postponement of these examinations. The court also said in the judgment that we find that there is no justification for prayer for postponement of NEET UG-2020 as well as JEE (Main) April, 2020 examination. This long and full academic year cannot be wasted.
The NTA says that the country is about to enter the fourth phase of Unlock Down (Unlock 4.0) from 1 September 2020. Many activities have opened up. The academic calendar of the current year 2020-21 has also been adversely affected, as the entrance to the first semester of engineering and medical undergraduate courses has not been made yet due to lack of entrance examinations. This has adversely affected the academic life of the students.
Many private institutions and foreign / international universities, which are not dependent on these exams, have all started sessions by taking the help of virtual classes. In this scenario, missing a session will be harmful for those students who wish to study in government colleges even further. States like Assam, Arunachal, Odisha, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh have also prescribed Common Entrance Examinations for admission to bring the lives of students to normalcy.
Meanwhile, after the release of the admit card, NTA has received representations from both types of students. One class who wants examinations, and the other who argues to postpone the exam due to COVID 19. The NTA says that both groups of students have given strong arguments in their favor.
The NTA has clarified that in this scenario, there is no reason for the NTA not to conduct examinations. From a far-sighted point, it is important to conduct these entrance examinations in the month of September in the interest of students and the country, hence both the court and the government agree on it. Apart from this, the agency will also conduct examinations of other institutions without delay.
Meanwhile, on Thursday, the Union Minister of Education, Dr. Ramesh Pokh Riyal Nishank said that the safety and career of students is important for us. In the past also, these exams have been postponed twice before May-June. He said that most of the students, parents and other means are in favor of conducting the examination. People want their session not to be wasted. After hearing all kinds of arguments, the Supreme Court already took a stay.
