There is a possibility that banking and other important data can be stolen from the smartphones of Android users with the help of this malware. The Computer Emergency Response Team of India (CERT-In) said in an advisory that Android malware can steal information from more than 300 apps, including e-mail, e-commerce apps, social media apps, including credit cards. CERT-In is India’s national technology unit, which works to fight cyber attack and save Indian cyberspace. In this advisory it has been said that the Blackrock malware is a virus in the ‘Trojan’ category, which is active all over the world. A few days ago, a Netherlands agency alerted about this malware.

This cyber security agency said, ‘This malware has been developed with the help of Xerxes Banking Malware, which itself is based on LokiBot Android Trojan.’ The most dangerous thing about this malware is that it targets 337 apps simultaneously. It has a list of the most popular apps, from financial apps to social media. It also includes networking and dating platforms.



How does this app steal information?
The advisory said, ‘When this malware is launched on someone’s device, then the app hides its icon from the drawer and then it shows itself as a Google update, which is fake. In the name of Google update, it asks for malware accessibility. Once it gets permission, then it automatically gets many necessary permissions.

this malware is targeting apps like Gmail, Yahoo Mail, Microsoft Outlook, PayPal Mobile Cash, Amazon Seller, Uber, Net Flix, Amazon Shopping. Apart from this, many banking apps are also included in this list. These apps are also ICICI’s iMobile, SBI’s Yono Lite, IDBI Bank’s Go Mobile +. It is being said that this malware is also stealing data, passwords and credit and debit card details from smartphones.

It was told that with the help of this malware, hackers are targeting 337 mobile apps of Android, which carry out online fraud. However, this was reduced in 2019. Now it is increasing rapidly once again in 2020.
