The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has proposed to amend the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989. Now the nominee’s name can be printed in the vehicle registration certificate.Under the new rule, the owner of a vehicle can nominate any one person in the registration certificate.





The ministry said in a statement that it has been proposed to include the enrollment facility at the time of registration of vehicles. This will help in registering / transferring the motor vehicle in the name of the nominee in the event of death of the vehicle owner. Right now this process is very complex and there is no uniformity across the country.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Government of India has proposed that the nominee’s name should also be registered at the time of registration of vehicles. This will facilitate the vehicle owner to register or transfer it in the event of death.

If the vehicle owner dies due to any reason, then the vehicle can be easily transferred in the name of the nominee. The government has said that a proposal has been made in this regard and it has been released for the suggestions of the people and all stakeholders.

The government has invited suggestions and comments from the public and all stakeholders on the proposed amendment. It said that the proposed amendment proposes to add an additional provision at the time of registration of the vehicle where the vehicle owner can nominate someone as the legal heir of the vehicle in the event of his death. For this, a valid identity card of the nominee will have to be installed.




Along with this, the road transport ministry of the government has also sought suggestions for changes in the Motor Vehicle Act 1989. Suggestions have also been sought regarding changes in different forms regarding RC. If the nominee’s name is already registered in it, then in case of death of the vehicle owner, he will have to upload the death certificate on the portal. After that he will have to apply for a registration certificate in his name. If the Aadhaar authentication is selected by the nominee, then the new RC will be faceless.
