NPS allows its subscribers to render a minimum deposit amount of Rs. 500 per transaction and a minimum contribution of Rs 1,000 per fiscal year. The NPS account and also the PRAN (Permanent Retirement Account Number) inoperative in case the subscriber fails to make the minimum contribution of Rs 1,000 in a fiscal year. Considering this, the account holder must obey the method listed below in order to reactivate a locked NPS account.

  1. Subscriber has to visit the bank or post office branch where he / she has opened the NPS account in order to get the UOS-S10-A form. Or else the account holder can also visit npscra.nsdl.co.in to download the form online. 
  2. Now the account holder has to fill-up the form with complete and error-free details. After the filling-up the form he / she must attach a copy of the PRAN card with the form. 
  3. Now the account holder has to make a minimum contribution of Rs 500 for the current fiscal year along with a penalty of Rs 100 for each year. In case the subscriber is holding a Swavalamban account then he / she has to pay a penalty of Rs 25.
  4. Upon submission of the form, you will be given a signed acknowledgment slip by the agent. Until your account becomes operational, keep the slip handy with you. 
  5. The officials will ensure that the acknowledged contribution is higher than the authorised minimum contribution in order to keep the account operational. The request is processed and the PRAN is enabled if the balance is placed in order. Important to note is that the bank or post office can impose marginal transaction fees including a service charge imposed by the CRA (Central Recordkeeping Authority) for a subscription transaction as necessary.
