Lance Naik Salim Khan (24) hailing from Patiala, Punjab, died in Ladakh. Salim was a resident of Mardanheri village in Patiala and 58 engineers were posted in the regiment. As soon as the family received the news of martyrdom, a wave of mourning raged throughout the village. The body of Lance Nayak Salim Khan was brought to Chandigarh by special army aircraft. From where the convoy was brought to his village Mardanheri by road. Salim Khan’s body was surrendered in the village cemetery after paying full state and military honors and namaz-e-janaza. Earlier, Shaheed’s mother Naseema Begum, sister Sultana and elder brother Niamat Ali saluted Shaheed Salim Khan and paid their obeisance.
Patiala Military Station Commander Brigadier Pratap Singh Ranaut handed over the tricolor flag wrapped on the coffin of the martyr to the martyr’s mother. On this occasion, Bigler of the Indian Army played a melodious tune and the jawans inverted the weapon and gave a guard of honor and fired a salute to the martyr. Punjab cabinet ministers Sadhu Singh Dharamsot and DC Kumar Amit reached the martyr’s village and paid their last tribute to the martyr. Lance Naik Salim Khan was on duty in the operation area of the Indian Army in a dangerous situation near the Shyok River near the Indo-China border.
Shaheed Salim Khan’s elder brother Niyamat Ali said that the regiment was engaged in towing for the rescue operations related to the operation of the Indian Army through a tranche in the Shyok River at around 1.30pm on Friday. Meanwhile, the installment of Salim Khan overturned and he was martyred at around 3:30 pm. Salim Khan was born on 14 January 1996 and was admitted to the Indian Army in February 2014. His father Mangal Din also served in the Indian Army and he was relieved due to an accident while on duty. He died about 18 years ago.
Martyr’s mother Naseema Begum was crying repeatedly saying that bring my Simma, bring my Simma. Naseema was fainting again and again while remembering and crying for her son. He told that Salim’s call was received the day before yesterday. He learned about the well being of the whole family and promised that he would come home on leave as soon as the conditions are normal on the Indo-China border. The mother said that three months ago when he came home on leave, he said that the mother will give you every happiness in life, so that the father is not lacking.
Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has announced a grant of Rs 50 lakh as ex-gratia grant to the family of Lance Naik Salim Khan and a government job to a family member. The Chief Minister said that the state government would provide all possible help to the family of Lance Naik. The Chief Minister tweeted and wrote- ‘Sad to hear about the death of Lance Naik Salim Khan in Ladakh. He was from Mardanhedi village in Patiala district. My deepest condolences to his family. The nation salutes the brave soldier. Jai Hind!
