What is this masked Aadhar card, how safe is it and where do we use it?
Masked Aadhar card is considered more secure than regular Aadhar as only 4 characters of Aadhar are visible in it. 12 characters appear on a regular basis. The concept of Masked Aadhaar has been brought to ensure that the data related to Aadhaar is not leaked. This saves us from giving complete information.
You must have heard about the regular Aadhar card. This is the same Aadhar card that you carry in your pocket and on which 12 digit unique number along with name and address is printed. Something similar happens with the Masked Aadhar Card which is issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). This is also an identity card like regular Aadhaar. It can be used as a photo identity card like a regular Aadhaar. However, in terms of security, the masked Aadhar card is better than the regular one.
Masked Aadhar card comes in handy when you show Aadhar card at hotel or airport, but don’t want your full Aadhar number to be visible. If the card number is not shown in full, then your Aadhaar becomes more secure. Masked Aadhar card does the same thing.
What is masked aadhar card
Masked Aadhar card means e-Aadhaar card in which only 4 characters are visible instead of 12 characters. After the news of Aadhar card data leak, UIDAI started the concept of Masked Aadhar which is more secure than regular. It is very easy to get and can be easily downloaded by visiting the UIDAI website, giving some necessary information. On a regular Aadhar card, you will see the full 12 characters written while on a masked Aadhaar the last 4 characters will be seen. The first 8 letters look like a cross. However, like on a regular basis, on a masked basis, smart QR codes, photographs and demographic information are visible.
