How to merge or deactivate two UAN accounts of two different EPF accounts
Two UAN occurs when an employee leaves one company and goes to another company but his same UAN is not transferred to another company. In such a situation, two EPF accounts are created and both have two different UANs.
Once you check that you do not have two UANs. UAN means Universal Account Number which is linked to your PF account. If there are two UNs, then either deactivate one or merge both. It is an easy task to do this and if you do so, there will be no problem in the PF calculations going forward.
First let us know how there are two UANs. Two UAN occurs when an employee leaves one company and goes to another company but his same UAN is not transferred to another company. In such a situation, two EPF accounts are created and both have two different UANs. According to EPFO rules, a PF member should have only one UAN number. If there is more than one UAN number then it is against EPFO rule. If an employee has two UAN numbers, then he should transfer the EPF account on moving from one company to another and deactivate the previous UAN.
How to Deactivate or Merge the UAN
First way
- Report this to EPFO. For this you have to email EPFO. You can mail to uanepf@epfindia.gov.in to deactivate UAN. Mention about the previous and current UAN in the mail, along with the member ID.
- After receiving the mail, EPFO will verify the information given by you.
- After verification, EPFO will block the old UAN and the new UAN will be activated.
- The employee has to claim in the mail that the EPF account should be transferred with the new account.
- This method is a bit time consuming as it has to send mail first. After the mail, EPFO will do the verification. After this the next action will start and only after the employee has made the claim, the EPF account will be transferred. Keeping in view the more time, EPFO has come forward with a new way in which the employee can easily merge his multiple UANs by himself.
Second way
- First of all, the employee has to apply to transfer the old EPF to the new one.
- After identifying the PF account, EPFO will deactivate the old UAN from which the EPF is to be transferred.
- As soon as this process is completed, the employee gets the message on his registered mobile number.
- If you do not get a new UAN, the employee can apply for it and request for updating the account.
Third way
- First of all go to the official website of EPFO. After that login with your UAN number and password.
- Enter your UN, Password and Captcha code here.
- After this, you will see the option ‘Online Services’ on the website, click on ‘One Member-One EPF Account (Transfer Request)’.
- On the next page, check all your information to see if the information entered in it is correct or not. If something goes wrong, get it corrected.
- After that click on ‘Get Details’. After this you will get the information related to the old company.
- After this you have to click on ‘GET OTP’. After this, OTP will come on the number from which the UAN is registered and after that click on submit.
- After this you have to fill Form 13. In this, information of PF has to be given which is related to the current and previous institution.
- After completing this process, you will get a tracking ID from which you can track the PF transfer.
- Take a print out of it and sign on it. Then send it to your current and previous company within 10 days.
- Both the companies will verify and approve the information given by you. Only after this your EPF will be transferred online.
