Time may take two weeks
According to information received from the sources, a time limit of two weeks has been fixed to complete the work of bringing the BIS agency under the Ministry of Commerce. After the death of Ram Vilas Paswan, several meetings have been held in this regard after Union Railway Minister and Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal got the additional charge of the Ministry of Food and Consumer Affairs.
In 1986, BIS was involved in Consumer Affairs.
According to the news of English newspaper Da Times of India, earlier BIS was known as Indian Standards Institute (ISI). This agency was formed in September 1946 on behalf of the Department of Industrial and Supplies. In 1986, BIS came into existence as an Act of Parliament and was placed under the Department of Consumer Affairs.
Long running proposal
BIS officials told the Times of India that this proposal has been going on for a long time. Let us tell you that this agency mainly prepares standard standards for industrial goods. In view of this, this proposal was proposed by the Ministry of Commerce.
BIS official gave information
The former senior BIS official said that the agency, which makes standards for industrial goods everywhere except the globe agencies, works only under the Commerce Department. If BIS is brought under the Ministry of Commerce, it will help India to become self-sufficient.
What does BIS do?
On the other hand, people believe that BIS not only sets standards but also enforces them, in such a situation, the interests of consumers are also protected by BIS. Along with this, this agency also takes action against violating the rules.
