The agreement was signed by officials of the Indian Postal Department and the United States Postal Service. Explain that this agreement will make it possible for international postal goods to transmit and receive their electronic data before they reach the destination and will also help in making arrangements for getting the advance clearance related to the postal goods according to the changing global postal structure. This agreement will also improve the performance of postal services in terms of reliability, visibility and security.

Import and export takes place on a large scale – America is the top export destination for India. 17% of which is sent through the same postal department of India. In 2019, about 20% of outbound EMS and 30% of letters and small packets transmitted by Indian post were sent to the US, while 60% of the parcel received by India Post came from the US. According to the agreement, the exchange of electronic advance data (EAD) will be an important driver in promoting mutual trade with emphasis on exports to the US from different parts of India through postal medium.

It is worth noting that the US is a major export destination for India’s MSME products, gems and jewelery, medicines and other local products. This will fulfill a major demand of the export industry associated with accelerating the process of customs clearance of export goods.

Small exporters will be helped by the agreement – This agreement between the postal department of India and America will benefit small exporters. Now small exporters will be able to export their goods to America easily with the help of Indian Postal Department.
