Income Tax: Need Form 26AS? Get it in a pinch with these steps

Form 26AS is also known as annual consolidated statement. This is an important document which contains all the tax related information of the taxpayer.

On June 7, 2021, the Income Tax Department launched a new e-filing system. The new electronic filing system is expected to provide a modern and smooth facility to the taxpayers. Also, when it comes to Form 26AS, it is easily downloaded in the new portal. Form 26AS, also known as annual consolidated statement, is an extremely important document containing all the tax related information of the taxpayer, such as TDS (Tax Deducted at Source), Advance Tax.

After the new income tax website opens, taxpayers will be able to get their tax information by downloading Form 26AS (Form 26AS) from the new portal. Let us have a look at what is included in Form 26AS and how you can download Form 26AS:

What is included in Form 26AS?

Form 26AS contains information about the tax deducted by companies from your income. It gives complete details of the tax deposited by the collectors.

In the form, the amount of advance tax paid by the tax payer along with information about self-assessment tax payment is also included. Apart from this, it also keeps information about refunds during the financial year and also gives details of stocks, mutual funds and other large transactions.

Form 26AS is necessary as it also shows the amount of tax deducted at source by the taxpayer. Apart from this, it also verifies whether the companies and banks have deducted the correct tax or not and deposited them in the account of the government.

Steps to download Form 26AS

To download his Form 26AS, an Income Taxpayer needs to log on to the new Income Tax website i.e. www.incometax.gov.in and create an account.

Then at the top right of the Income Tax Portal home page, click on the ‘Login’ button, navigate to the ‘e-File’ menu, and follow the easy instructions.

After logging in, go to the ‘e-File’ menu and click on the link ‘View Form 26AS (Tax Credit)’.

Read the disclaimer and click on ‘Confirm’. On clicking it, you will be taken to the TDS-CPC website. On the TDS-CPC website, click on the ‘Proceed’ option and accept the terms and conditions.

Then, click on ‘View Tax Credit (Form 26AS)’ and select the assessment year.

Click on the ‘View Type’ drop-down menu (HTML, Text or PDF) and download. The computer monitor or cell phone screen will display your Form 26AS. Save and download Form 26AS for future use.
