Ration card holders (Ration Card Holder) including Annapurna and Antodaya card holders will get ration every month with the help of Mobile OTP and IRIS Authentication instead of biometric method. According to a report published in The Hindu, this rule related to ration card will be applicable in Telangana state of the country from 1 February 2021. This step has been taken keeping in mind the protection from infection spread due to Corona epidemic. Biometric Authentication has been discontinued due to Covid 19 epidemic.

Aadhar will have to be linked to mobile

According to officials of Civil Supplies Department, all card holders will be required to link their Aadhar card to mobile number for rationing, so that OTP can be sent to it. This decision has been taken in accordance with the guidelines of the order issued by the High Court. The court took this decision after hearing the petition filed. In this petition, there was a possibility of spreading of corona infection due to biometric authentication.

Ration to be provided by OTP in Hyderabad and Rangareddy Districts Since iris authentication facility is not available in Hyderabad and the then Rangareddy district, the ration content will be given at these places through mobile OTP. Hyderabad’s Chief Rationing Officer B Bala Maya Devi said that on 01 February Hyderabad, ration material will be distributed in all 670 Fair Shop only through mobile OTP authentication.

The people of this district will be sent OTP on the mobile number associated with Aadhaar card. Maya Devi has suggested to all card holders to link their Aadhar card with mobile number to get the material. There are 87,44,251 ration card holders in the state of Telangana. The number of card holders in Hyderabad district is 5,80,680, while in Rangareddy the number is 5,24,656. 4,94,881 in Medchal Malkajgiri, 2,34,940 in Vikarabad.
