New Delhi. If you also use small LPG cylinders then there is good news for you. Now you will not have to worry about LPG chotu gas cylinder. You will soon be able to buy gas cylinders from ration shops. The central government is considering selling small LPG cylinders through kirana shops and even providing financial services.

According to a media report, to make government ration shops more financially viable, Food Secretary Sudhanshu Pandey recently held a virtual meeting with officials of various state governments, during which these proposals were placed.

Meeting with petroleum companies

Officials from the Ministries of Electronics and IT, Finance and Petroleum and Natural Gas were also present in the meeting. Officials of Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL), as well as CSC e-Governance Services India Limited (CSC) were also present in the meeting.

The representatives of Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) appreciated the proposal for retail sale of small LPG cylinders through government ration shops. He said that on this proposal, the interested states and union territories will be provided necessary assistance for this project on their behalf.

On the proposal for sale of financial services through government ration shops, the representatives of the Department of Financial Services (DFS) informed that necessary assistance would be provided in coordination with the interested states. It was said in the statement that the government is also considering to provide Mudra loan through these ration shops.

In the meeting, Union Food Secretary Pandey stressed on the need to take necessary steps to make ration shops more financially viable. The state governments suggested that the financial utility of these shops could be increased with the help of Common Service Center (CSC).
